Well hasn't time flown. My last entry doesn't seem like it was more than a week ago but it has been over a month.
Since my scenic Bolton Abbey run I have had a couple of scenic runs during my birthday trip to the lake district in June. One run from Anbleside to Grasmere was a hairy road run dodging some fast cars and trying unsuccessfully to keep my feet out of the muddy verge. I was grateful agin for a happily placed public loo. My second scenic run took me into the hills from Gelridding to the ski club hut near the foot of Helvellyn, it was hard work and the heat did not help. The short cross country stretch was good fun though and I enjoyed the added dimension of thinking really carefully about where to put my feet.
Since then my local road runs ahve got longer and longer and, having taken advice from Russell on this blog I ahve invested in a basic heart rate monitor which is helping me to pace myself a little better.
The best thing for helping me to pace my run however was something I discovered on my first 10K race. Throughout the race Beth stuck with me and made sure I didn't go off too fast and end up exhausted. Her advice about running a race was invaluable. I managed the race in a (I think) respectable 74 mins and to my great relief I was not the last person over the line, phew :). The race marked two acievements for me, firstly the longest distance I ahve run so far and secondly the only run over 3 miles I have completed without walking any of it.
Since the race however I seem to have hit a bit of a lul :(. Being busy in my work and personal life has left me feelling tired and a bit lacking in the motivation to run in spite of my 10K success. I do however have a plan...
